About

I am Megan Joraanstad, a wife, mother, and writer. I was born in Singapore and grew up overseas. I didn’t realize I was a Third Culture Kid (TCK) until I was in high school because it just wasn’t something anyone really talked about. We were all TCKs in Singapore and that was normal. Today, I recognize how my upbringing has impacted me and made me into who I am.

After graduating from high school I enrolled at Biola University. Four years later, I graduated with a degree in Accounting and moved to Northern California with my boyfriend, who would later become my husband. It was during our time in Lodi, California, that I discovered blogging on a slow day at work, and my passion for learning about the Old Testament through our involvement with the Young Adult group at church. When I first discovered blogging in 2007 I was fascinated, but didn’t really have any focus on what to write. God was still developing and forming that passion in me. And, at the time, He was building a case for my husband and I to leave California and move, with our two cats, to a new state, and a new life, with a new purpose.

So, we drove into Colorado one August evening and settled into what would become our new home a few days later. I started attending Denver Seminary where I would eventually graduate with a Master of Arts degree in Old Testament Biblical Studies. The history of God and His people fascinated me and I couldn’t get enough of it. In fact, it enriched everything I knew about Jesus, his mission, and the grace he offers. However, upon leaving seminary, I became aware of how biblically illiterate so many solid Christians are, especially when it comes to the Old Testament; for that matter, I shared in this illiteracy before I went to seminary. I passionately believe that the Old Testament still matters, and still reveals God’s heart and will to us because He is unchanging and faithful to His plans and purposes. Those plans and purposes begin in the Old Testament, continue through the New Testament, and are still at work even to today.

A few months after graduating, I felt that God was calling me to write about Him: His history; His plans; and His purposes. So, I began to blog. Scripture is full of passages speaking about how crucial it is to know the Lord our God. Graduating with a seminary degree doesn’t mean I know everything, I am still learning about God: how to know Him; have a relationship with Him; and how to trust Him with everything. In a large sense, this blog documents my own faith journey as I grow in the knowledge and love of the Lord and learn what His purpose is for me as a wife, mother, writer, and everything else. Expect to find a lot of Old Testament posts in here, it is my area of expertise after all. However, there will also be posts on what faithfulness looks like in the muddy reality of life, there will be posts on theology, doctrine, and Hebrew word studies, and there will be posts that revolve around a particular topic. My hope is that everyone who stops by will find these posts to be applicable, approachable, and accessible.

I appreciate your patronage, I may not know you personally, but I pray over this blog and its audience, that God would speak His truth to you, and draw you closer to Him, and encourage you with His love.

In addition to spending time with my wonderful husband and son, and writing, I also love being outdoors, playing with our pets, reading, and drinking tea. While writing is a passion of mine, it doesn’t quite pay the bills yet so I also work as a gymnastics coach, and do the accounting for a small non-profit. Life is always busy, but it is good, and God is gracious to me when I take on too much. I am also slightly obsessed with elephants.
